ULS is a partner institution in the COMENIUS project: "Early language learning: meeting multicultural and multilingual Europe through national stories," coordinated by the Catholic Higher Education College of Namur (HENaC), Belgium. The project is designed to develop multilingual and multicultural awareness of language teacher trainers and trainees who will teach a foreign language at the primary school level, to promote language acquisition and learning including internet communication technologies (ICT), and to develop a common European teacher-training module. The project's activities include collecting and translating stories, describing their cultural background, sharing good practices, developing common methodologies, and creating materials for use in the classroom. Among the project's outputs will be a multilingual anthology of national stories (in print and electronic format), a common European module for foreign-language teacher trainees at the primary level (including ICT), a series of materials to be used in primary schools by children (including ICT), a website, a bibliography, and a methodology pack for initial training. The project, which started in October of 2003, lasts three years.
